The Feldenkrais Method
What is Feldenkrais? The Feldenkrais method is a movement based modality that was developped by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais after he injured himself playing football. Moshe could not find anyone to help him with his knee problem. The best advice that he got was to operate the knee with a 50% chance of damaging the knee permanently. This he could not accept, so he looked elsewhere and then to himself for a solution. Moshe was into martial arts and knew Judo well, this gave him an insight into movement and awareness.
By working on himself he developed the method that was to bear his name. Initially he worked on people one on one to help them with their problems these one on one sessions he termed Functional Integration, but he soon realized the limitations of this. He could only reach so many people in a day. So he took the movements that he did with his clients and adjusted them so that he could speak them out loud and teach a group of people to explore and expand their body awareness. This he named Awareness Through Movement.
